Vis, Ltd. was founded as Vis Roofing and Seamless Gutters in 1974 by Harvey G. Vis. His sons, Loran, the current CEO and President, and Don, started at Vis, Ltd. as teenagers and have continued the Vis, Ltd. tradition of exceptional service. Third generation, Dustin Vis, is currently serving as Project Manager.

Today, the company is one of the largest in Iowa and by the end of 2010 expects revenues to exceed 3.5 million. At its beginning, the company focused on small residential and commercial flat roofing and seamless gutters.

Over the years, the company expanded its expertise to include roofing systems, such as steep slope, tile and slate, sheet metal, built-up and single-ply roofs. Vis, Ltd. now offers a comprehensive, one-stop roofing service, from copper church spires to insululation and eco-friendly green exterior solutions. Among its services are annual maintenance and repair programs, coating, restoration, moisture scans, seamless gutters and vinyl siding and windows.

Vis, Ltd. retains its family business, culture, and commitment to workplace safety. Its thousands of projects encompass state landmarks such as the Iowa Veterans Home, the Iowa State Historical Building, the Governor's Carriage House, West Des Moines Public Library, ISU's Morrill Hall, the Des Moines Register's Production Facility, the Coralridge Shopping Mall, and many more.
